SSG Victor I. Medina Jr.

He was a great father, NCO and overall genuine leader and friend.

Poem written by Sgt. Edwin Lopez

My Hero

Whenever the word hero is mentioned I think of mine with affection
My hero was a leader
A great, but humble teacher
Taking the time to teach all he knew
For his family there was nothing he wouldn't do
Watching him with his family was a thing of beauty
He was a man we admired truly
He became a friend and mentor to us all
Showing up anytime we would call
Always carrying pictures of his kids
Bragging proudly this one's a wiz!
He was a dad, and best friend to them all
The love he had for them was all we saw
Remembering the words he would calmly say
Don't worry. It will all be okay
Coffee in one hand and a cigarette in the other
Like this hero we will never see another
It was so painful to watch my hero get ill
Leaving an empty spot only he can fill
Even then he would calmly say
Don't worry, it will all be okay.
The tears flow from our eyes
Knowing he will no longer be by our side
Yet through all the tears and the sorrows
Thinking of all the empty painful tomorrows
I can still hear him say
Don't worry, it will all be okay.
