Deryk was 6’5” tall and lived for sports, playing basketball, baseball, and wide receiver for his high school football team. His true dream was to become a sports agent but after studying computer programming with 9 weeks to graduate and a 3.4 GPA he quit college. He said he wasn’t going to waste one more day of his life doing something he didn’t really want to do!
A few months later he joined the Marine Corps. He was adamant about being an infantry man and helping the Iraqi people be free from an evil dictator. He proudly chose to serve his country under his Commander in Chief President George W Bush.
During his short 11 months in the USMC Deryk earned numerous awards among a few being Boot Camp Honor Platoon, Purple Heart, and Bronze Star with Valor. He was appointed the Point Man for his platoon; a position he was proud to have.
According to his many commanding officers and Band of Brothers Deryk’s larger than life humor and Gung ho attitude left an impressionable mark on the 2/4 Golf Company.
